Why is there the annoying Tencent PC Manager?
How to get rid of it
Tencent PC Manager appears on startup
Unable to uninstall Tencent PC Manager
One day, during some spare time, I upgraded some common software, including the new version of QQ for PC. After using the computer that night, I shut it down and went to sleep. The next morning when I powered it on, I saw the image in Figure 1:
① Figure 1
What the hell, have I downloaded it? Have I installed it? My laptop runs Windows 10. If before shutting down, there are applications that are not running properly, sneakily running, or that I have closed before shutdown and require a bit of access rights, a pop-up will appear when I boot up, as shown in Figure 1. But I haven’t downloaded or installed it. Let’s not dwell on this issue and just get rid of it first.
In Figure 1, click on the button to expand the detailed information, and in Figure 2, you will see the installation path of the software. Remember that path.
I usually limit software installation to outside the C drive, so mine is on the G drive. If yours is in the C drive, it may be a bit troublesome.

Now let's try to get rid of it with the regular method: Uninstall.
However, the computer cannot find Tencent PC Manager at all. It’s not listed in the menu - all apps.
See Figure 3
③ Figure 3
Let’s check in 360 Manager (if you're using another software, you can go to the corresponding software manager).
But there’s still no Tencent PC Manager software, indicating that Tencent PC Manager is not installed on the computer. But that doesn’t make sense, I clearly saw it on startup. Let’s complicate things a bit. Go to Control Panel - All Programs.
However, I have looked several times and have not found Tencent PC Manager among the software. Normally, properly or normally installed software should show up here. It seems Tencent PC Manager is a bit sneaky…
At the beginning of the article, we found its installation path. Let's go to that directory and have a look.
Inside, there are two folders with different names but the same size. Let’s not worry about that for now, click on QQPCMgr and...
We confirm that this is indeed the installation directory of Tencent PC Manager. Because the computer cannot find it installed, we cannot uninstall it. We can only delete all of its files. As shown
First, try running that Uninstall.exe to see if it works. If it does, then there’s no need for further hassle.
Select all and then click delete
But Tencent says: I just love watching you trying to get rid of me but failing.
The computer will prompt that some files are currently in use because some processes of Tencent PC Manager are running. There are some files that cannot be deleted; you can go deeper into the folder, select all the files, and don’t worry about those that can’t be deleted; just click skip and delete as many as you can. Next, there are a few methods to clean it up properly. The easiest method:
① Select the remaining files that cannot be deleted and use 360's force delete feature; if you have other software that can do this, you can try that as well.
Haha, the author is not advertising for 360, don’t get all worked up.
② If you don’t have software for force deletion, you can shut down and restart, then find that directory to delete it. Because the integrity of Tencent PC Manager's program has already been compromised, it will not start. After rebooting, there won’t be its processes, and it won’t prompt that files are in use. You can now directly delete all files.
When we go back one level, we find that the similarly sized folder is also Tencent PC Manager's.
Just delete it directly.
Now don’t you feel that Tencent PC Manager is quite cunning, hiding itself? I won’t rant here. I’ve tried many times to inexplicably install it, so I’ve had some words with its product manager. You all can add your thoughts.
When I noticed this during startup, I discovered this rogue. If you pay a little attention, you might also find it. For example, when your computer has Tencent PC Manager (regardless of whether it’s a legitimate installation or hidden installation), when you log into QQ:
But when you have gotten rid of Tencent PC Manager, the screen looks like this:
Now log into QQ
Startup error because we have KO'd Tencent PC Manager.
However, do not click on it often. Otherwise, it will automatically download the PC Manager. I only clicked without worry because I compromised the integrity of its program; if you click, it will be dangerous.
When installing the new version of QQ, I clearly:
But I still got tricked.
When using Tencent software, always be cautious; be aware of potential traps that could instantaneously lead to bloatware.
Laptop: Give me a beer so I can shout out my story
As per the trap below, you may think the badge is just an icon. But actually... if you click it, you will find... you know what I mean...

You could say that I don’t have mixed software, so how could that thing install automatically? Where does the automatic installation come from, you know.
Some people may encounter download managers or other software that suddenly bombard your system with a bunch of apps. Like Blue Moon Legend, Taobao Helper, Tencent PC Manager, etc., are heavy disaster areas. You need to be cautious. Sometimes, rogue software like Baidu Antivirus could also be treated with the methods above. This is just an example; you can also try to get rid of 360 based on your personal choices.
For guardian software, I recommend 360 (personal choice). (You must distinguish right from wrong; I am not advertising for 360.)
