A few days ago, someone emailed me saying that after traveling around, they found themselves still feeling anxious, as if traveling wasn't that effective.
There was a time when I was also very passionate about traveling, thinking that I had completed the "level-up" task, only to find myself still disheveled when facing life.
Indeed, travel cannot bring about significant changes to the reality you have to face. The topics you need to tackle are still numerous, and your boss is still the same. If you don’t clearly recognize that you eventually have to return to life, then travel is likely not going to have that much of an effect. Does traveling necessarily lead to self-discovery? Don't believe that phrase. If you only visit the most popular attractions, see the most beautiful sights, while constantly being online, it’s equivalent to not going anywhere at all, because you haven't grown in any way.
What does it mean to grow during travel? I believe the most important aspect of travel is learning to be alone. Travel acts as a catalyst that allows you to find your inner rhythm, but the prerequisite is to realize this: it's precisely because you've been in the hustle and bustle for too long that you wish to go somewhere else. However, if during the journey you are constantly afraid of loneliness and solitude, then such travel is merely moving from a place you are tired of to another place that others are tired of as well. Ultimately, you will have to return, and after returning, you still have to face the work that was left undone because of travel. Sooner or later, you will confront life's disappointments. If you have not cultivated a peaceful mind, then after the journey ends, you will only feel that life is even more unsatisfactory.
Do you think life is tough and want to travel? Feeling sad and want to escape? That will only make you feel worse.
Travel should not be an excuse for escape; it should be a process of exploration, more like a reward for your hard work. Because I've worked hard, I deserve a break, and that makes it justifiable.
I hope everyone who wants to travel can take a trip by themselves. Learning how to face solitude, how to confront loneliness, and how to confront oneself is what truly matters. So, why not bring along a few books and some songs on the road? Go to a place you're not familiar with, and don’t “chase” those attractions; I believe you will gain much more that way.
